Description
The project involves the renovation of the three turbine-generator units at BC Hydro’s Ruskin Generating Station in British Columbia. This work has civil engineering implications.
Openings in the slabs are required to create a closed-loop cooling air circulation system. These openings must be covered with grating platforms. A steel support structure for the slabs was designed. Furthermore, B.E.S. was mandated to validate the strength of the concrete foundations of the generators. The condition of the cracked concrete was assessed. B.E.S. also developed the plans and specifications for the rehabilitation of the concrete draft tubes.
