Steel-timber bridge facilitating the transport of goods and users over the Opinaca River. The Opinaca bridge features 3 continuous spans with a total length of 103.0 m. The bridge consists of a steel abutment resting on rock-drilled piles and another made of cast-in-place concrete directly on exposed bedrock. The piers are composed of a group of piles also drilled into the rock, directly supporting the steel crossheads. The firm was commissioned to provide structural and foundation engineering services for the bridge’s construction. The B.E.S team’s execution of this project resulted in savings of approximately one million dollars through the use of a non-traditional construction method. Specifically, the bridge was assembled on the bank before being pushed into place on rollers.
