Description
The Fondaction building is the first six-story building with a glulam column and beam structure in North America. Its overall height is 22.2 m and 8.6 m below ground (including three levels of underground parking).
The building’s structure is designed to counteract permanent deformation by directing loads parallel to the wood fibers. The exterior cladding consists of a glass curtain wall.
The building was designed to achieve energy savings of approximately 40%. The building is LEED certified and has received several awards and distinctions, including the Cecobois Award of Excellence 2010, in the Structural Concept category.
