Fondaction Montréal Artwork

The structure, over 15 meters high and made of aluminum, is a chain of nine links inspired by the trade union’s emblem. The challenge was to construct a chain, standing vertically in the air on an outdoor site, creating the illusion of a chain under tension with no visible joints, neither in the assembly nor in the construction of the links, while offering a smooth and uniform surface to the eye.

B.E.S. was commissioned to carry out the structural design of the artwork itself (wall thickness, welds). B.E.S. also designed the anchoring and the base. This type of structure is vulnerable to dynamic wind effects and fatigue.
